The Milwaukee Bucks finally headed home after their four-game road trip, one where they went 2-2, capped by a loss to a Denver Nuggets team that was without four of their opening night starters. Looking to get back on track, their one-game stop back in Milwaukee had them facing the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves were entering the contest fresh off a win against the San Antonio Spurs, but were set to be without Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert, arguably the two most-important players on the team. While it seemed set up for a Bucks win, that wasn't the case on Tuesday night.
With Julius Randle leading the charge with 29 points and Bones Hyland having 23 points off the bench, the Timberwolves' 60% shooting from the field and 52% shooting from three-point range helped lead them to a 33-point blowout victory over the Bucks, 139-106.
It seemed as though everything went right for Minnesota in a situation where they were down two star players, while the Bucks struggled to get much going offensively outside of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
After the game, head coach Doc Rivers was straight up with how he saw his team's effort.
"No excuses, we just didn't have it. We were flat. I thought our guys tried at the beginning of the third quarter to fight back a little bit. But when you dig yourself that big of a hole, every basket, every turnover, anything hurts," Rivers said.
While the game ended up being a 33-point margin at the end, the Timberwolves led by as many as 41 points, with the Bucks never once holding a lead in the contest.
"I actually probably should have pulled the plug earlier because I just thought we were flat. I didn't think we had anything tonight," he added.
Ryan Rollins had yet another underwhelming night offensively, scoring 11 points on 14 shots and connecting on just one of his five three-point attempts. In addition, the Bucks' bench was horrible, with Gary Trent Jr. (-30) and Kyle Kuzma (-37) having poor plus-minuses.
Looking ahead for Milwaukee, it doesn't get any easier for them. They'll face the Spurs on the road on Thursday, then face the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets within the next four games. There's still plenty of time to make a change to the roster, but at the end of the day, there needs to be some coaching changes if these lineups aren't working.
