The Bucks will have to make sacrifices.

The Milwaukee Bucks continued to bolster their roster by signing Gary Trent Jr. to a four-year, $64 million deal to keep Trent in Milwaukee after two seasons where he proved to be a dependable bench piece who can even step up to a starting role when need be.

It's been a productive offseason for the Bucks so far and their close to completing their roster in preparation for next season, but that means that the time is coming for them to make some hard decisions in regard to how exactly that roster will be constructed.

At the moment, the Bucks have a surplus of guards to work with, Trent Jr. included. The Bucks have 10 guards in total on their roster with, but they do seem to have a deficit of forwards, especially at the four.

Addressing Needs

Without much size overall to work with, the Bucks needs to consider the full depth of their roster needs and in order to make space to possibly add another power forward into the mix, the signing of Trent Jr., who will likely shake up to be a relied on depth piece once again, will likely mean that they'll have to either trade or release another guard in order to better prepare for the future.

Looking at the guards they currently have, it's easier to see who will likely be safe from any moves later this offseason. Brayden Burries was one of the Bucks' two first round picks in the most recent draft and he'll likely be a big part of the Bucks' future, so he's all but guaranteed to stay.

Next to Burries and Trent Jr. in the safe zone is Kevin Porter Jr., who has been with the Bucks for two seasons and just exercised his player option to stay with the Bucks next season.

Porter Jr. was mostly held back by injuries in the 2025-26 season but he proved to be a reliable player when he was healthy and will likely be a big piece for the Bucks next season, if in a more reduced role with all of the new talent that's been brought in.

Who Will Go?

That essentially leaves Caris LeVert as the odd man out. LeVert came over to the Bucks in part of a massive six-team trade that the Bucks were involved in earlier this offseason. LeVert is in the final year of his contract and owed over $14 million next season and at 31-years old, he doesn't exactly fit into the youth movement that the Bucks have been building.

He could be an intriguing trade piece if the Bucks choose to go that route but overall, if someone has to go to free up space for any future additions, LeVert seems like the most likely candidate.
