With the offseason fast approaching for the Milwaukee Bucks, their biggest goal at the moment is to make a decision on what to do with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo, 31, is coming off a season in which he played just 36 games.

He is under contract next season and has a player option in 2027, before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2029. 

There have been negotiations and inquiries from other teams to trade for the former MVP and NBA champion, but Milwaukee has yet to make any moves involving him. While the Bucks are trying to get as much return as possible for him, there's a chance Giannis stays on the roster longer. 

NBA insider Shams Charania laid out a potential timeline for when the Bucks and Antetokounmpo could come up with a resolution, and it may be sooner than some think. 

Charania also mentioned that Giannis' stance has not changed. He believes that both sides have reached a point where it's time to move on, meaning the Bucks could be left with no choice but to take the best offer available. 

There have been speculations from executives and sources across the NBA that believe the Bucks could be getting less than they hope for from Antetokounmpo. 

During the trade deadline, the Bucks were hearing offers for Giannis, but nothing came to fruition and he is still a Buck. 

Considering Giannis will likely be traded to a contender, the Bucks will likely get limited draft picks but also get back players who can make them competitive temporarily. If he gets traded to the New York Knicks, one player to watch is Karl-Anthony Towns. 

Towns is on a bigger contract like Antetokounmpo's and plays a similar role in the frontcourt; it could make sense for both sides to swap players. 

Another player to watch for in the Eastern Conference is a former Defensive Player of the Year, Evan Mobley. The Cleveland Cavaliers are in possession of two defensively oriented big men in Mobley and Jarrett Allen, who can easily be used in a trade to get a player like Giannis. 

The Bucks ideally would be looking for younger players as well as ones who match Giannis' contract. Someone like Jaylon Tyson from the Cavaliers or Tyler Kolek from the Knicks could also be players who may be involved in these negotiations. 

Giannis Antetokounmpo's departure from the Bucks means it's time to rebuild, and Milwaukee's goal is to speed up that process with this trade.
