As the Bucks faced the Charlotte Hornets for the second time in their last three games, the result was familiar, as Milwaukee closed the regular season out with a 3-1 series victory.
The Bucks won 122–121 on Friday night after a last-second, game-winning alley-oop from Kevin Porter Jr. to Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo handed the ball off to Porter Jr. before cutting back to the rim to finish the lob, putting the Bucks up by one and icing the game.
The narrow win came just one game after C.J. McCollum drained a game-winning fadeaway for the Wizards in a New Year’s miracle over Milwaukee.
Antetokounmpo’s game-winner landed him at 30 points and 10 rebounds over 30 minutes.
This is the most Antetokounmpo has played since his return from his calf strain that kept him out for almost a full month.
The game-winner was not the only moment of chaos late. With just 45 seconds left, the lead changed hands five times, ending with Antetokounmpo’s winner.
Milwaukee may have escaped with a win, but Antetokounmpo and Ryan Rollins had inspiring performances. Rollins scored 29 points on 11-of-13 shooting with eight assists to complement it.
Rollins has only gotten better with Antetokounmpo back. The Most Improved Player contender is still averaging 17 points per game as Doc Rivers experiments with his role on the team.
Rollins also went 6-for-7 on shooting from deep, as he has impressed as a wing option with Antetokounmpo clogging the paint.
Rollins and Antetokounmpo weren’t the only ones to have a good shooting night.
The Bucks shot 52% as a team, which helped them barely escape with the win.
The Bucks weren’t the only team with high volume efficiency, as rookie and Wisconsin native Kon Knueppel posted 26 points. Knueppel missed their last outing due to injury, but made sure to make his mark this time around, making 9-of-16 shots from the field.
Forward duo Bobby Portis and Kyle Kuzma both found success coming off the bench, putting up a combined 38 points on 14-of-21 shooting.
Rivers continues to mix and match the starting rotation as the team gets healthier and begins to string together wins.
The victory marks the Bucks’ third win in their last four games with Antetokounmpo back on the court. Now 15–20, Milwaukee is slowly climbing in the standings and inching closer to the playoff picture.
Although the Bucks still sit in 11th place, they are just 1.5 games out of a play-in spot and 4.5 games back of securing a top six seed.
Milwaukee next takes on the 8–27 Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
