Former Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo shared his feelings towards his teammates his last year in Milwaukee.
Just recently, the Milwaukee Bucks made a move that transcended the basketball world, trading away former MVP and NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat in exchange for Kel'el Ware, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and multiple draft picks.
This ends Antetokounmpo's 13-season stint with the franchise, and while he gave Bucks fans countless memories, he probably would have liked to have a better ending to his time in the city.
Giannis' last season in Milwaukee was filled with drama in many areas, ranging from injury status to leaked conversations that were being held in the Bucks' locker room.
It's being reported that Giannis felt as though his teammates were selfish for letting their internal opinions get out to the public. Giannis tried to hold his teammates accountable, but nothing really came about.
Giannis also went through some drama while missing many games last year due to injury, and it went as far as the NBA investigating him and the Bucks for how they managed his injuries.
Antetokounmpo was claiming inconsistent injuries to the Bucks, which raised eyebrows, causing an investigation. In the end, the NBA found no evidence that made them punish Giannis or Milwaukee, but the drama surrounding the whole situation could have been a distraction.
Another instance where there was discourse between Giannis and his teammates was when Myles Turner made comments suggesting that Antetokounmpo received special treatment and was excused for behavior that would normally get others penalized.
Kevin Jairaj-Imagn ImagesTurner's comments gained a lot of attention on social media, and even Bobby Portis, who was also traded to the Heat, publicly expressed how the comments threw him off as well.
With all that behind him, Giannis now has a clean slate with Miami. He is playing for a new franchise for the first time in his career, and it helps that he gets a close teammate from the 2021 championship team, Bobby Portis, brought alongside him in this process.
He has already started to build a connection with Heat forward Bam Adebayo as the two were spotted at the Las Vegas Aces game just a day after the trade was announced.
Sam Navarro-Imagn ImagesWith the drama behind him, Antetokounmpo could be in for a major bounce-back season. Before 2025-2026, he was one of the league's most durable stars and put up great numbers playing more than 60 games every year of his career. There is a new energy with this Miami Heat team and Giannis, and they could make noise in the East.
