There are very few teams in the NBA that desperately need a win like the Milwaukee Bucks do, and unfortunately, they'll have a major test against the New York Knicks on Friday night.
Ever since the Bucks lost Giannis against the Cleveland Cavaliers on November 17, their season has been a complete downward spiral. The team is currently on a six-game losing streak, with losses against the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Portland Trail Blazers, and Miami Heat.
Ryan Rollins has done a great job of stepping up for the Bucks this season, but for as well as he's played, it's still not enough to substitute the greatness of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Giannis has missed the last four games with a left adductor strain. Entering Friday's game against the New York Knicks, he's been listed as questionable.
However, since that initial listing, Giannis has now been listed as AVAILABLE. His availability is a major relief for the Bucks tonight.
In the Bucks' most recent game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, he was listed as out, then questionable, then back to out. It was a decision Doc Rivers agreed with.
"No, I was not in favor (of him playing)," Rivers said. "I was very happy we decided what we decidedd. I was very uncomfortable with it. He really wanted to push and that's who Giannis is... What makes Giannis this great is that it was a yes from him. We just thought it was the right thing to do. We gotta protect him sometimes.
The Milwaukee Bucks started the season with an impressive record of 4-1. Most of that was due to the greatness of Giannis Antetokounmpo and his impact on the court. Throughout that span of time, he led the Bucks in scoring, rebounds, and assists.
In 13 games this season, Giannis has led the Bucks in scoring 11 times. He's also led the team in rebounds 10 times and assists six times.
Throughout 11 games, Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging a ridiculous 31.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists on 63/50/64 shooting from the field. The numbers that Giannis is putting up is arguably MVP worthy, and also top-three in the league levels of production. The only players that could be considered better are Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic.
As the team has nosedived in the standings without Giannis, they now have an overall record of 8-11, which places them in the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks face off at 7:30 p.m. EST on Friday night.
