Kevin Porter has only played nine minutes for the Milwaukee Bucks this season.
In game one of the 2025-26 campaign, he went down with a knee injury, which has now kept him out of play since that season opener win against the Washington Wizards on Oct. 22.
Earlier this month, the Bucks announced Porter Jr. had surgery on Nov. 3, and now he is several weeks into the month timeline the team originally provided with regard to when he can return to action.
Porter Jr. recently reflected on his injury in a press conference on Nov. 19, finally shedding some light on his perspective as he continues his time on the sidelines.
“All the work that carries into that very first game, then to not be able to finish, it sucked, but I knew my guys would hold it down and I know they’re going to hold it down while I’m gone and rehabbing right now,” Porter Jr. said during the press conference.
In that lone spurt of playing time he logged in Milwaukee’s first game, Porter Jr. scored 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field and 2-for-3 shooting from 3-point range.
It may have been under 10 minutes of play, but in that time, Porter Jr., who joined Milwaukee midway through last season after being traded to the Bucks by the Los Angeles Clippers, showcased what he could bring to an already strong offensive unit in Milwaukee this season.
Thus, when Porter Jr. does make his return next month, the Bucks will welcome him with open arms, especially now that their two-time MVP and superstar in Giannis Antetokounmpo is also out for the time being with a groin injury.
Milwaukee was off to a solid start, as the team produced a 4-1 record through the first five games of the new season. Then came the win-loss-win-loss pattern they were seemingly stuck in, going 4-4 over the next stretch of games, which ultimately came to an end with a second loss in a row the night Antetokounmpo went down with his injury on Nov. 17.
Now with the Bucks down two of their core players in Antetokounmpo and Porter Jr., not to mention the long-term neck injury Taurean Prince is dealing with, Milwaukee will need to lean on its other personnel to get the franchise through this undermanned stretch.
Their first chance to prove they can will be tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Milwaukee.
