Myles Turner makes a shocking claim about the Milwaukee Bucks.
Myles Turner joined the Milwaukee Bucks in the offseason, signing a four-year, $108.9 million contract.
Turner played his previous ten seasons with the Indiana Pacers, who had become a major rival of the Bucks, defeating them in the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
The addition of Turner was a retooling move by the franchise after they waived and stretched the contract of Damian Lillard, who was going to miss the entire season after undergoing Achilles surgery. Instead of keeping Lillard and likely having a gap season with Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks wanted to try and keep Giannis happy by remaining competitive in the Eastern Conference.
Their gamble didn't exactly pay off as they failed to make the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
Myles Turner Speaks Out
On the Game Recognize Game podcast, Turner revealed the lack of accountability within the Bucks organization.
"Guys were late all the time. Guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up. Guys were missing meetings. It was one of the craziest things I personally ever experienced," he said.
Turner said that head coach Doc Rivers never fined anyone and that Giannis would show up whenever he wanted.
“It got to the point where I knew to not show up until an hour after they said the plane was going to take off… Giannis is going to show up whenever he wants," he said.
Bobby Portis, a longtime veteran in Milwaukee, reacted to Turner's comments by wondering if it was AI.
This season turned out to be Rivers' final season with Milwaukee as he stepped down from his head coaching position after the season ended.
Turner's Rough Season
Turner wasn't brought in to give the same production as Lillard given that they played two different roles, but Turner's production was down from his previous seasons in Indiana.
He averaged 11.9 points, four points less than he had in Indiana the prior year, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks, both career lows. He also shot a career low 44% from the field.
Turner's fit turned out to be less than ideal, as he was never able to form chemistry with Giannis due to the latter missing so many games due to injury. And after playing alongside an elite point guard like Tyrese Haliburton, Turner found himself next to Kevin Porter Jr and Ryan Rollins, neither of whom has the experience of Haliburton in running a free-flowing offense.
