NBA Makes Final Decision on Giannis Antetokounmpo All-Star Availability cover image

The NBA has made a decision regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo's availability for the 2026 All-Star game

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was selected to his 10th All-Star Game in 2026, despite playing just 30 games this season. Heading into the All-Star break, Giannis has averaged 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game on 64.5% shooting from the field, the highest of his career.

Unfortunately, the Bucks star hasn't appeared in a game since January 23rd, when he had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists in a loss to the Denver Nuggets. With that being said, it's forced the NBA to make a decision on his status for the All-Star game at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

NBA Makes Decision On Giannis

Due to injury, Giannis will no longer be able to suit up for Team World, as Adam Silver has made the decision to name San Antonio Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox as his replacement. As a result, Miami Heat guard Norman Powell has moved to Team World due to his ties with Jamaica.

Statistically, it's been one of the worst seasons for Fox this year, but he's contributed to San Antonio's position as the second seed in the Western Conference. In 45 games this season, he's averaging 19.4 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds on 48.4% shooting from the field.

Ex-Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden might've been the replacement had he not been traded, but the Spurs likely deserved to have two All-Stars given their season. The nod could've gone to Stephon Castle as well, as the reigning Rookie of the Year has averaged 16.5 points, 7.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in 44 games this season.

However, Giannis will still be present at All-Star weekend to help coach the All-Star Celebrity Game with his brothers. His roster will feature former NBA players Jeremy Lin and Tacko Fall, alongside other notable names like Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions and ESPN's senior insider Shams Charania.

Whether or not Giannis could be good to go by the All-Star game, it gives the two-time MVP time to heal and get ready to return to the court in the second half of the season. With the Bucks going 5-1 in their last six games and seeing strong production from Ousmane Dieng and Cam Thomas, there's something to look forward to.

Giannis still gets the All-Star selection on his resume, but will have to sit back and watch the new All-Star game format unfold as he cheers on his peers for Team World.
