New details on suitors for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Giannis Antetokounmpo could find a new home in the offseason as he and the Milwaukee Bucks have seemingly been headed for a split for a year now.

Last offseason, the New York Knicks reportedly pushed to acquire the Bucks superstars, but ultimately a deal never got across the finish line. Trade rumors swirled throughout the season, and picked up during the deadline, but once again, a deal never materialized.

The relationship between Giannis and Bucks management seemed to sour after the deadline when Giannis suffered an injury on March 15 and was ultimately ruled out for the season. According to Giannis, he was healthy enough to play in the final weeks, and wanted to be on the court.

A New Suitor Emerges

According to Marc Stein, the Portland Trail Blazers "are expected" to emerge as a suitor for Giannis.

"When it comes to Dundon's first NBA offseason in charge, I've heard from multiple league sources that the Blazers are expected to emerge as a prime trade suitor for Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo," Stein wrote in his newsletter

The report states Portland engaged in trade talks with Milwaukee as recently as the Tuesday before the in-season trade deadline, which fell on a Thursday.

Miami, Minnesota, Golden State, and New York were linked to Giannis in the lead-up to the trade deadline, but ultimately, teams realized that Milwaukee was not going to part with Giannis despite their dwindling playoff hopes.

There was no indication of what Portland might be parting with in any potential trade for Giannis.

Familiar Faces In Portland

Should Giannis end up in Portland, he would reunite with Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard, who were traded for each other in the 2023 offseason. Lillard returned to Portland in 2025 after his contract was waived and stretched by the Bucks following an Achilles injury that sidelined him for the entirity of last season.

Lillard is expected to return to the court for the start of the 2026-27 season.

It is unknown what Portland would give up in a potential Giannis trade, but they do have intriguing young players such as Shaedon Sharpe, Scoot Henderson, and Donovan Clingan.

They also have a number of first round picks, including all their own picks from 2027 to 2032, swap rights with Milwaukee in 2028 and 2030, and Orlando's first in 2028. If the Bucks are looking to trade Giannis and begin a rebuild, having their own draft picks back could intrigue them.
