On Friday night, the Bucks took down the Hornets 122–121 for their second victory over Charlotte in their last three games.
Although Giannis Antetokounmpo stole the show with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, capped off by a game-winning dunk, Ryan Rollins had a sneaky impressive performance that helped turn the tide in the game.
Rollins scored 29 points on 11-of-13 shooting, adding eight assists and four rebounds.
Rollins went 6-of-7 from behind the arc and set his career record for three-pointers made in a game.
Rollins is shooting 42% from three this season and has found a lot of success with his deep ball.
“I was open, let it fly, it went in,” Rollins said.
Although he finished the game with 1,024 career points, he reached the 1,000-point milestone early on and was rewarded with the game ball.
“After 1,000 it’s 2,000, so got to keep it going,” Rollins said.
Rollins said he had no idea he had reached 1,000 points after the game and added that Antetokounmpo owns far more deserving records. Antetokounmpo set the NBA record for the most 30-10-5 games in league history, and Rollins had high praise for the star.
“He’s Giannis, man. He does this night in and night out. We take his presence for granted. He’s a living legend,” Rollins said.
Antetokounmpo has been through plenty of highs and lows in Milwaukee and continues to show the young players on the roster how to handle winning and losing. “I take it from him, the good and the bad; stay even-keeled,” Rollins said. “Even when you do good, take something you can improve from it,” Rollins said.
Rollins and the Bucks have certainly improved over the season and have found new energy with Antetokounmpo back, and their season on the line.
The Bucks have now won four of their season's 15 victories in the last six games as they inch closer to the playoffs.
“We just got to keep the streak going now,” Rollins said.
The Bucks are playing like an entirely new team with Antetokounmpo’s return.
The Bucks shot efficiently throughout the game, finishing 52% from the field. Rollins, who only missed two shots all night, had a concentrated effort on putting up good shots as often as possible.
“When you make the right play, most of the time you get the right result,” Rollins said.
Although Antetokounmpo’s winner came at the very last moment, the Bucks have kept their recent games close.
The heartbreaking loss, thanks to CJ McCollum and the Wizards, allowed the Bucks to learn from their mistakes in the clutch.
“We executed at the end, the game before that, we weren’t ready, but this game we executed down the stretch, made the right plays, and got the win,” Rollins said.
Including the win, the Bucks still sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference but have picked up key wins with Antetokounmpo back.
Milwaukee next takes on the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night as Rollins and the Bucks continue to look better every game.
