There are three teams that are best suited to trade for former MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Milwaukee Bucks finished the 2025-2026 regular season 32-50, in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and missing the playoffs. Shortly after the conclusion of their season, the Bucks fired head coach Doc Rivers.
With reports that the Bucks are looking to move former MVP and NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo elsewhere, all signs are pointing towards a rebuild in Milwaukee.

Who Qualifies to Trade for Giannis?
There's no question that Antetokounmpo is in a position in which he would like to compete for a championship. He is 31 years old, and while he has shown no real signs of regression, his days in the NBA are numbered.
The Eastern Conference is not as top-heavy as the West, and one can make the argument that Giannis is the best player in the East. This means that the best suitors for Giannis will have to be teams in the Eastern Conference who are ready to compete once they add him.
Jeff Hanisch-Imagn ImagesHow Can the Knicks Provide for Giannis and the Bucks?
The New York Knicks are a team to watch in the Giannis sweepstakes this offseason. This potential move would depend on whether or not they win the NBA Finals. New York had very similar rosters in their last two playoff runs. If they do not get it done this year, will they ever?
In 2026-2027, the Knicks have four players making $36 million or more, including center Karl-Anthony Towns, who is making $61 million next season. If New York chooses to pursue Antetokounmpo, Towns' name will likely be in discussion during trade talks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team that has been in the second round of the playoffs the last three seasons, but if they can't get past Detroit, it raises concerns about whether or not their core roster is good enough to get to the next level.
In 2026, two players on the Cavaliers make $50 million: Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell. James Harden makes $42 million on a contract year, and Jarrett Allen will make $28 million. Cleveland is left with options on who to move off if the time comes to pursue Giannis.

When you think of Eastern Conference contenders, you think of the Boston Celtics. More often than not, they have made deep playoff runs, and in a season in which Jayson Tatum will have a healthy offseason coming in, they are poised to make another push for the championship.
Boston's weakness in recent years has been its front-court. Teams have been inclined to attack the Celtics' bigs, and with the addition of Antetokounmpo, that strategy could be altered.
