Tyler Herro Explains Bucks' Crucial Mistake in Loss vs Bulls
Oct 24, 2026 11:10 PM

Herro put the winless Bucks' defeat to the Bulls down to inexperience.

The rebuilding Milwaukee Bucks may be 0-2, but if their current trajectory continues, they are not far from getting into the win column.

The Bucks dropped their home opener 132-125 to the Chicago Bulls on Friday, unable to navigate a bonus situation on the defensive side of the ball.

However, despite the two losses, newcomer Tyler Herro sees the fruits of the team's work; they just need more time to put it all together.

"We're a young team, guys are learning, getting new experiences," he said. "We just have to continue to get better, but guys are urgent, and we want to get it done now."

Herro in particular has impressed since returning to Wisconsin — the state he grew up in — via the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade with Miami.

Herro erupted for 34 points on 12-for-24 shooting (5-for-10 3PT) against the Bulls, adding five rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes. And although it was not enough to hold off the visitors, Milwaukee's new star is confident the young Bucks have a clear path forward.

"I think we're going to be in a lot of games all season," he said. "It's about the little things, the small details, that are going to help us squeeze out wins."

Elaborating on the little things, Herro mentioned winning 50/50 balls and defending without fouling, which in turn would set the Bucks up to attack in transition as opposed to having to run sets every time down the court, which is significantly more difficult.

He believes that the Bucks' transition offense is their advantage and a key to winning games.

Herro's individual offense hasn't been stagnant — averaging 28 points while shooting 50 percent from the field in his first two games — however, simplifying things could help his less experienced teammates come along.

Quick Turnaround

The Bucks will get right back to work against the LeBron James-less (rest) Philadelphia 76ers (2-0) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

It's going to be a tough task to pull out a road win in the City of Brotherly Love. However, there is also no better team to upset right now for your first than the early championship frontrunners.

To do so, the Bucks will need more magic from Herro.

There are no signs of unrest from the 26-year-old after being traded by the team that drafted him. Herro seems just as excited as Milwaukee fans to be back where it all began.

Herro led the Bucks in scoring (24) and assists (9) in the loss to the Wizards on Wednesday, and if he continues that way, he could cement himself as the face of the franchise's post-Giannis rebuild. There are no questions about his talent or age in that regard; he just has to stay healthy and prove it.

In the final year of his four-year, $130 million rookie scale extension, he has every incentive, beyond being the hometown kid, to keep balling.
