Could the Milwaukee Bucks get a big haul from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a trade for Giannis?
The Oklahoma City Thunder lost in seven games to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, bringing questions to their potential dynasty.
After winning the NBA championship in 2025, the Thunder seemed poised to win multiple championships, but a team that is just as young and just as good stood in their way in 2026.
Now, the Spurs are looking like the true dynasty of the next decade, and the Thunder may need a way to combat Victor Wembanyama.
Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti isn't someone who makes rash decisions based off one series or one game, especially when OKC wasn't at full strength, but he may want to maximize the current window the team is in.
Giannis To The Thunder?
There are only so many players who can matchup with Wembanyama give his unique size, length, and skill. Chet Holmgren was thought to be one of those players as he is a lengthy defender who has been battling Wemby since the two were teenagers.
The gap between the two was evident in the Conference Finals.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has the length to battle Wemby and the size and strength that Chet lacks.
The Athletic wrote, "League sources have long maintained that Oklahoma City would not take part in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes that will dominate the summertime conversation, but this sort of stunning finish is enough to re-spark that conversation. Nothing should be off the table when the end goal wasn’t reached."
What Could Milwaukee Get From OKC?
If the Thunder decided to make an offer, they could easily make the best offer, it just depends on how much they would be willing to give up.
Even if OKC offered up Chet and the 12th overall pick in the 2026 draft, those two building blocks alone are going to top a number of offers that have been floated online.
Obviously, the Bucks should want more, and they will likely get it, but acquiring an All-Star who just turned 24 years old and a lottery pick in a deep draft, to go along with the 10th overall pick that the Bucks currently hold, would give Milwaukee three big pieces going into the future.
Chet is not Wemby, but no one is, and his impact on both ends of the floor should not be dismissed because of one bad series against the toughest matchup in the league.
Along with Chet and the 12th overall pick, the Bucks would likely receiving one of Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins, and another future first round pick or two. Wiggins and Joe both have upside as offensive players, and they would have a bigger role in Milwaukee. The more first round picks, even if they are from OKC and not from the Clippers, the better.
