Should the Bucks hold on to Tyler Herro?

The Milwaukee Bucks are headed in a new direction after a major offseason trade where the team dealt Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.

The full trade saw Milwaukee deal Giannis and Bobby Portis in exchange for Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel'el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, which was used to select forward Nate Ament out of Tennessee, a 2030 first-round pick swap, 2031 first-round pick, 2033 first-round pick, and a 2033 second-round pick.

The Bucks might not be done as many are wondering if they will trade players received from Miami to further revamp their team.

Keep in mind, there are trade restrictions on all four Miami players so they can't be traded until September 6 at the earliest.

Another Tyler Herro Move?

Bleacher Report published a hypothetical trade where the Bucks would deal Tyler Herro, Myles Turner, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kevin Porter Jr. to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Jimmy Butler, Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody, Will Richard, 2027 first-round pick (top-4 protected), 2031 first-round pick.

The theory behind the move is that Herro is set to make $33 million this season before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

Instead of potentially paying Herro, they could get similar production from Podziemski, who is on a cheaper contract ($5.6 million), but will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

The Bucks would at least have control when it comes to Podziemski, whether they choose to re-sign him or work out a sign-and-trade with another team next offseason.

The Problem With Trading Herro

Herro has been involved in many hypothetical trades over the years when he was a member of the Heat, but nothing came to fruition until Giannis was traded. Now that he's an expiring contract, teams will likely be more willing to make a deal for him.

As of now, his value is good, but not great.

He's coming off an injury-plagued season where Miami had a losing record with him in the lineup and was a better team with him off the floor.

He could rehab a lot of his value if he's able to fit into the team structure of the Bucks and increase his overall output. The Bucks aren't going to be good this season, but Herro has a chance to prove himself as more of a leader, which would go a long way in finding a new home for him at the trade deadline.

Worst-case scenario, if Milwaukee can't find a suitor for Herro, he leaves as an unrestricted free agent and cap space gets opened up.
