How Bucks Can Improve After Disastrous 1-4 Start This Season
Oct 30, 2026 6:48 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks still have time to turn things around after a slow start.

The Milwaukee Bucks are off to a 1-4 start this season, and while they have seen some good individual performances from various players, the team clearly has multiple issues they need to address in order to get more wins under their belt.

To start, Milwaukee has allowed the third-most opponent points per game. This is a team that has emphasized the importance of defense throughout much of the offseason and training camp, thanks to the hiring of head coach Taylor Jenkins.

If this team wants to turn the season around and find a way to win more games, defense will have to be something this coaching staff stresses to this young roster. There is a lot of scoring talent on this team, especially in the backcourt, but if they continue to trade baskets with opposing teams, they will keep falling behind.

Another element that can help this Bucks team improve this season is simply time. Not only is the roster young, but they're also getting settled in playing with one another. This is a Milwaukee team that looks much different now compared to the beginning of last season, and teams with so many moving parts can take time to build chemistry.

Rookie guard Brayden Burries is in the middle of getting his first NBA reps in, and as the season continues, look for him to be a reliable piece off the bench or a starter on the Bucks by April.

As of now, Burries averages 7.8 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. He has reached double figures in three of the five games played, and if he can find some consistency, he could provide good depth for this team.

Consistency has been a general issue the Bucks have run into this season as well. Guard Ryan Rollins has had games where he has provided good production, but he has also had games where he's had a tough time shooting the basketball.

In the Bucks' lone win against the Indiana Pacers, Rollins shot 7-14 from the field and finished with 19 points. He followed that up by shooting 2-14 from the field against the Houston Rockets, and he finished with 4 points.

It will be interesting to see how he and the rest of this young core continue to evolve as the season continues. The Bucks will need all the help they can get to turn things around this season, and consistent play has to be the first step toward improvement.
