Why Tyler Herro Could Be in for a Career Year With Bucks

This offseason, the Milwaukee Bucks made major changes to their roster. The front office decided it was time to part ways with former Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, and they traded him to the Miami Heat. 

The Bucks got back multiple draft picks and players in that deal, and the most notable piece they got in return was guard Tyler Herro. Herro has been with Miami since they drafted him in 2019 and was part of their two NBA Finals runs in 2020 and 2023. 

He had been a reliable scorer for them during his tenure, and with them choosing to give him away this offseason, Herro could have a chip on his shoulder in his debut season in Milwaukee.  

Last season, Tyler Herro finished the year averaging 20.5 points per game in 33 games played with the Heat. Herro has been a player who has had injury troubles in the past, but when he played 77 games in 2024-2025, he was an All-Star. 

In terms of scoring, the Bucks will need Herro to have a big season if they want to be a team that is competitive. Since 2021, Tyler Herro has averaged at least 20 points per game in a season. With the Bucks, he will have plenty of opportunities to succeed, as there are question marks all around the roster. 

Milwaukee has multiple young pieces in the backcourt, including rookie guard Brayden Burries and 24-year-old Ryan Rollins. With so many moving parts, Herro is clearly the most proven player in this rotation. 

The main issue with the Bucks' roster right now is that there is no clear number one option on offense. They have a mix of players who have seen success on the offensive end earlier in their careers, but in terms of who will be the leader, that is still a question mark. 

As long as Tyler Herro stays healthy, he has the chance to have one of his best seasons in the NBA. Not only does he have the capability to lead the Bucks in scoring, but his supporting cast can provide a bigger boost than most think. 

He brought along Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel'el Ware with him, and that continuity could help him next season. Overall, the only aspect of Tyler Herro's career that has not been up to par is his health. If he stays healthy and Taylor Jenkins and the Bucks coaching staff find ways to be successful with him being the leader of this team, Herro could have a career year.
