Guerschon Yabusele was underrated

Jul 27, 2026 6:57 PM

Obviously, Guerschon Yabusele is not the most successful example, but he was the first person I thought of when I saw this tweet.

Yabusele was the No. 16 overall pick by the Boston Celtics in the 2016 NBA Draft. In two seasons with Boston, Yabusele averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while rarely seeing the floor. The Frenchman then went back overseas and eventually landed with Real Madrid.

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris led to Yabusele's return to the NBA, and he had his best season yet with the 76ers. Yabusele averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists on 50.1% shooting and 38.0% from deep in 2024-25. He was then stuck on the bench for the Knicks before ending the year in Chicago, where he averaged 10.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in 27 appearances, including 19 starts.

Yabusele is now headed to Europe again to play for Panathinaikos B.C. in Greece. He didn't spend much time with the Bulls, but I do feel like he was very underrated, despite being forced to play center because of the team's depleted roster.
