Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has frequently preached about how his team's depth is its strength. That depth was on full display on Monday night, when Chicago took down one of the top teams in the NBA.
On the second night of a back-to-back, the Chicago Bulls shocked the Denver Nuggets on the road, 130-127. The win snapped Chicago's five-game losing streak, which had turned a 6-1 start into a .500 record. Denver had won seven consecutive and is currently in second place in the Western Conference at 10-3.
Chicago's bench outscored the Nuggets' by a 66-9 margin. Ayo Dosunmu led the Bulls with 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting, while Jalen Smith and Jevon Carter chipped in 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Nikola Vucevic had a rough day shooting the ball, going just 3-of-13, but made the play of the game. With 32.8 seconds remaining, the big man's three-pointer put the Bulls up by four and secured the victory.
Josh Giddey logged 21 points, 14 rebounds and six assists in his second game since returning from an ankle injury. Kevin Huerter notched 20 points on four made triples. All five Bulls starters ended the game with a negative plus-minus, but all six of Chicago's bench players that saw action finished with a positive plus-minus rating.
Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray combined for 70 points for the Nuggets, but it wasn't enough for Denver to get the win. By himself, Jokic put up a herculean statline of 36 points, 18 rebounds, 13 assists, two blocks and a steal. Aaron Gordon also scored 24 points, though none came in the fourth quarter.

The Bulls were evidently fatigued from Monday night's double overtime loss to the Jazz to start, making just one of their first eight shots from the field. Donovan's squad flipped the switch, though, connecting on eight of the next 11 attempts to tie the game at 24 apiece. Carter gave Chicago its first lead of the game on a three-pointer as the shot clock expired.
Led by a pair of triples from Carter, Chicago's bench outscored Denver's in the first quarter, 12-4. The flurry over the back half of the period gave the Bulls a 30-28 advantage through 12 minutes.
With Jokic and Murray off the floor, the Bulls' reserves continued to build on their momentum. Smith knocked down two three-pointers en route to a 13-0 run to begin the second quarter, and when Murray finally broke the streak with a mid-range jumper, Dosunmu drilled another triple to keep the barrage going.
Jokic's return to action provided a spark for the Nuggets' offense. Denver erased the 18-point deficit with a 24-6 run and eventually entered the break with a narrow 64-63 lead.
The two teams traded buckets for much of the third until Chicago's bench surged once again. With the game tied at 83, the reserve Bulls scored 14 of the next 16 points to go ahead by double digits.
Murray had the hot hand in the fourth, rallying his team with 13 quick points to keep the game close. The point guard regained the lead on a layup, and after Giddey answered, Jokic hit a three to take a 120-118 advantage.
Huerter drilled a clutch triple with just over a minute left, and Dosunmu put the Bulls up by three by turning a bad Murray pass into a fastbreak jam. Vucevic's big-time three-pointer essentially put the game away.
The Bulls will wrap up their road trip in Portland on Wednesday.
