The Bulls take on the Bucks in a matchup of young Midwestern teams.
The Chicago Bulls take on the Milwaukee Bucks in their second regular season matchup, a game that was moved up to 3pm due to the Milwaukee Brewers hosting Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night.
For Chicago, this will be their first official matchup with the post-Giannis Antetokounmpo Bucks. The Bulls didn't put out much positive game film on tape in their first regular season game, getting obliterated 135-92 in a matchup with the Toronto Raptors.
Of course, there is no excuse for the Bulls' poor play, but they were going up against a team that has serious NBA Championship aspirations.
Chicago found breathing room tough to find all night, and thusly struggled to generate much sustained offense.
The Bulls finished the game shooting 32% from the field, 11% from the 3-point line, 72% from the free throw line and had 27 turnovers.
Caleb Wilson was expected to have normal rookie struggles despite dominating summer league and stretches of preseason, and he did just that. Wilson shot 7-21 from the field, including 1-8 from the 3-point line. Wilson's perimeter shooting continues to be a real question mark despite his positive offseason progress in that department.
Josh Giddey appears to be dealing with some sort of wrist sprain, but is likely to suit up for the game against the Bucks. Giddey joined the club with a terrible game against the Raptors' suffocating defense, shooting a horrid 1-10 from the field while collecting 5 turnovers. Chicago can live with terrible shooting nights from the Australian playmaker, but it's tough to survive games where Giddey has almost as many turnovers (5) as assists (6).
Playing the (also) rebuilding Bucks will provide more space to work with on offense for Giddey, Wilson and Matas Buzelis. The 6-foot-8 Buzelis shot poorly from the field as well (2-8) but his 13-16 shooting performance from the free throw line was encouarging in terms of aggressiveness.
