The Chicago Bulls look to end the regular season on a high note.
The Chicago Bulls look to end the season riding high, as they take on the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday evening. Chicago enters Sunday night having won two of their last three games, but losing their most recent matchup 127-103 to the Orlando Magic. Chicago--who are currently operating without a VP of Basketball Operations or General Manager--is likely more focused on ping-pong balls as an organization, but they have to be looking for some positive returns on their trade deadline additions as this season comes to a close. That means plenty of minutes and usage for Rob Dillingham and Leonard Miller, as Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis are both out for tonight's game.
The last time these two teams faced off, Chicago came out with a blowout win (125-107) powered by 22 points from Coby White and a solid playmaking night from Ayo Dosunmu (8 assists). Both of those players have since been traded from Chicago, and Sunday will see Dillingham try to take advantage of a thin backcourt that will likely contain Ryan Nembhard and Max Christie.
Dillingham is averaging 10 PPG over his last 10 games, but also has a concerning 4 assists vs. 8 turnovers over his last two games. The game slowing down mentally is the last hurdle for the lightning quick guard, who will need to become an above average playmaker to justify heavy minutes as a player who will never be a great defender.
Conversely, Chicago knows exactly what they have in Tre Jones, but it will be an opportunity for the guard to put a bow on what has been a great season for him. Jones dropped 23 points in the Bulls last game, and is averaging a career-high 14.2 PPG for the Bulls. Jones uber-aggressive drive-and-kick game has helped the Bulls get a look at some of their less-heralded prospects, with Australian big Lachlan Olbrich (6 PTS, 9 REB, 5 AST last game) showing some promise as of late playing next to the likes of Jones and Dillingham.
