The Chicago Bulls tip-off preseason with a showdown with the Phoenix Suns at the United Center.
The Chicago Bulls are back, with Wednesday evening providng our first look at Chicago Bulls No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson against real NBA competition.
Chicago will take on the Devin Booker-led Phoenix Suns, who already have a preseason game under their belt. The Suns lost 109-107 to the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
The Bulls underwent a ton of changes throughout the entire organization this offseason.
The change started at the top, with Bryson Graham brought in as the new Vice President of Basketball Operations. Graham made sweeping changes throughout the front office, and installed Tiago Splitter as head coach.
Chicago's biggest offseason additions outside of the draft were recent All-Star Norman Powell and Nic Claxton. Wednesday night will be our first chance to see how Powell looks playing next to franchise building blocks Wilson, Matas Buzelis and Josh Giddey.
Powell is the third-highest paid player on the team, and more importantly, has the most experience in big games and playoff settings. How seamlessly (or not) Powell fits with Chicago's new-look starting lineup will go a long way torwards determing how the season goes for them.
Speaking of highest-paid (and new) players, Nic Claxton is the second-highest paid Bull behind Giddey. Claxton will slot in as starting center, and will be expected to be a decent rim deterrent who can help spark more transition opportunities for a club that feasts on them. Unfortunately for the Bulls, Claxton was recently ruled out for two-weeks due to a hamstring injury.
There will be no extended look at Claxton in the preseason, making the performances of Wilson and Powell the key plot points for Wednesday night.
The Suns will be without Mark Williams for an extended period, left with Oso Ighodaro and Khaman Maluach to fill in at the five. New addition Miles Bridges adds some much needed scoring, although the Suns lost depth with Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale out of the picture.
In any event, the presence of Dillon Brooks, Booker, and an overall defensively-disciplined team, makes this a great tune-up for the Bulls.
Here's everything you need to know before the Bulls take on the Suns:
