The Chicago Bulls take on the Washington Wizards as they continue their summer league action.
The Chicago Bulls continue their 2026 NBA Summer League action when they take on the Washington Wizards. This game was slated to be a top matchup between No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa and No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson, but it was announced ahead of the matchup that Dybantsa would be shutdown.
The Washington Wizards announced that Dybantsa would be shut down after two summer league games. Over those two games, Dybantsa averaged 25 PPG, 7 RPG, 2 APG, 2.5 SPG and 1.5 BPG. The No. 1 pick shot terribly, finishing 39.4% from the field and .091% from the 3-point line. Dybantsa showed off a lot in terms of possessing impressive physicality for a rookie, on top of surprising defensive playmaking numbers.
Washington announced that along with Dybantsa, second-year players Will Riley (21st overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft) and Tre Johnson (6th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft) would be shut down for the remainder of Las Vegas summer league.
For now, it appears No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson will continue to suit up for Chicago. Wilson continues to look extremely comfortable with his 3-point jumper, which was the main concern with his game coming out of the University of North Carolina.
After knocking down a staggering 7-11 from 3-point range in his first game, Wilson shot 3-8 from 3-point range (37.5%) in his follow-up performance.
The Bulls summer league team hasn't had the most inspiring guard play in terms of playmaking. This has forced Wilson to create essentially all of his offense off the dribble. Dailyn Swain has struggled mightily in trying to fill a PG role and has spoken on this very issue.
Wilson's defense was impressive throughout the game, and his effort resulted in a whopping 5 blocks and 2 steals. Noa Essengue was still quiet in terms of shot attempts (1-4) but also was impressive as a defensive playmaker, collecting 2 blocks and 2 steals.
With Dybantsa, Riley and Johnson out, Washington won't have many big names available. Summer league Wizards guard Reece Beekman has experience with the Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets, and is still looking to catch on in the NBA. Beekman had 9 points, 4 assists and 2 steals in the Wizards 104-85 win over the Sacramento Kings. Chicago will no doubt need to contain Beekman to an extent should they won't to escape Tuesday night with a comfortable win.
