The Spurs' superstar center looked like the MVP candidate he is, as Victor Wembanyama stuffed the stat sheet against the Chicago Bulls.

The San Antonio Spurs are what the Chicago Bulls aspire to be: a historic winning franchise that rebuilt through the draft, found their superstar and rose back up to the top of the NBA standings.

Chicago, while very optimistic about 21-year-old Matas Buzelis and 23-year-old Josh Giddey, is still in the early stages of that rebuild. San Antonio showed the Bulls exactly what a franchise-altering talent looks like on Monday night.

Former No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama absolutely torched the Bulls, leading the Spurs to a 129-114 win in San Antonio. Wembanyama totaled 41 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the 15-point victory.

Meanwhile, the Bulls' young talent yielded mixed results. Buzelis scored 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting (1-of-6 from deep) and Giddey finished with nine points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Tre Jones' 23 points against his former team led all Bulls. Leonard Miller continued his breakout campaign with a career-high 21 points and seven boards.

The Spurs' ninth straight win gave them a 57-18 record and helped keep them as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Chicago's fourth consecutive loss dropped the Bulls to 29-46.

Wembanyama wasted no time tormenting the undersized Bulls. Over the first six minutes, the Frenchman scored 10 of the Spurs' 15 points, grabbed five rebounds (two offensive) and swatted down a Buzelis layup attempt.

Despite the center's dominance, the Bulls remained in front for much of the opening quarter. Chicago led, 28-24, until a run of five consecutive points pulled the Spurs ahead at the end of the frame.

The second quarter was a different story, as the Bulls shot just 7-of-26 from the floor. San Antonio opened up a 17-point lead at the half, thanks to 34 combined points from Wembanyama and Stephon Castle. The Bulls' struggles were not due to Miller, who totaled a team-high 14 points on 60% shooting and five rebounds.

Although Chicago continued to show fight, Wembanyama was unstoppable. The 7-foot-4 big man finished lobs and knocked down a pair of threes for 12 quick points. San Antonio's advantage grew to 25 points before head coach Mitch Johnson decided to send his star to the bench.

The Bulls' efforts kept them around a 20-point deficit for most of the second half. Collin Sexton used his speed to get by Wembanyama on various drives on the way to 20 points, while Guerschon Yabusele chipped in 15 points of his own.

Chicago returns home for a matchup with the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
