Stephen Mervis and Acie Law IV are set to join Bryson Graham's front office as key parts of the Bulls' basketball operations revamp.
Bryson Graham has been hard at work filling out the Chicago Bulls' front office since joining the franchise as it's new lead executive. He's got a long way to go — including finding the team's next head coach — but Graham's first two hires are now official.
The Bulls announced that Stephen Mervis and Acie Law IV have been added to the team's basketball operations department in a press release on Tuesday morning. Mervis' title will be the senior vice president of basketball operations and he will manage both salary cap strategy and analytics. Law, the vice president of player personnel, will primarily be in charge of the draft and scouting.
Both will answer to Graham, whose official title is the executive vice president of basketball operations.
Mervis was previously the assistant general manager of the Orlando Magic, a role he served in for two years prior to leaving for Chicago. He spent 12 years with the organization in various basketball strategy-related roles and helped build a roster that has reached the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.
The Athletic named Mervis to its NBA 40 Under 40 list in 2024, which also included Graham as the then-general manager of the Pelicans.
Law, 41, overlapped with Graham at Texas A&M and was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. He spent four seasons between the Hawks, Warriors, Bobcats, Bulls and Grizzlies before continuing his career overseas. Chicago acquired Law from Charlotte in the Tyrus Thomas trade, and he averaged 5.5 points per game over 12 appearances (one start) during the 2009-10 season.

After Oklahoma City won the 2025 NBA Championship, Law left to become the Brooklyn Nets' director of player personnel.
Under the Bulls' previous front office structure, Arturas Karnisovas was the executive vice president of basketball operations, while Marc Eversley was the general manager. It remains to be seen whether Graham will still look to bring in a general manager or if Mervis and Law are effectively replacements for the position.
If the latter is the case, Graham's next most important job will be to find the franchise's next head coach. Youth seems to be the theme of the Bulls' rebuild, with Graham, Mervis and Law all age 41 or younger. That puts candidates like Spurs assistant Sean Sweeney (41), Trail Blazers interim Tiago Splitter (41), and University of Michigan coach Dusty May (49) into the spotlight as the most likely options.
