Former Bulls forward Guerschon Yabusele is headed to the Greek Basket League.
The Chicago Bulls pulled off a trade last season that sent Dalen Terry out and brought in cash considerations and French forward Guerschon Yabusele.
Yabusele was barely receiving any playing time with the New York Knicks last season, a big part of the reason NY was so comfortable shipping him to Chicago in exchange for Terry. After averaging less than nine minutes per game and getting zero starts in NY, Yabusele started 19 of 26 games in Chicago at 24.7 minutes per game. He averaged 10 PPG, 5.7 RPG and shot 38% from 3-pt range on 4.9 attempts per game as a member of the Bulls.
The relatively impressive end to Yabusele's NBA season led to some light speculation that he would be back in the NBA next season. He certainly improved his perception within league circles during his time in Chicago, appearing to be a capable floor-spacer and solid hybrid PF/C.
But rather than return to the NBA, it was reported by Mike Scotto of HoopsHype on July 8th, 2026, that Yabusele would be signing a three-year contract with Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League.
According to Scotto, Yabusele's Panathinaikos deal makes him one of the top three highest-paid European players.
It was a savvy decision from Yabusele, who is likely to receive more in compensation from Panathinaikos than he would've in a bench role for an NBA team.
The 30-year old is no stranger to playing overseas. Over the course of his career, Yabusele has played for Chorale Roanne Basket, Rouen Metropole Basket, Shanghai Dongfang, Nanjing Tongxi Monkey King, ASVEL Basket and Real Madrid.
Outside of the Bulls, Yabusele had previously played for the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and the aforementioned Knicks.
There are usually provisions in these overseas contracts that allow players to have an out should they receive NBA interest, and one would have to assume that is the case with Yabusele and Panathinaikos. He will be 33-years old at the end of his new Panathinaikos contract, which would put him in position to likely get one more NBA deal should that be a future goal.
Yabusele's contract with Panathinaikos is reportedly three-years for €12 million, with another €650,00 going to his former EuroLeague club Real Madrid as part of the deal. Yabusele went on X/Twitter to praise his new club and opportunity, stating "I’m grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to represent this incredible club, compete with my new teammates, and meet the amazing fans."
