Lead executive Bryson Graham has overseen an extensive coaching search over the past several weeks. Reports indicate that at least 12 candidates have been considered for the position, though that number only reflects interviews that have been made public.
Splitter has emerged as one of the most intriguing names in the process. After stepping in for Chauncey Billups as Portland's interim head coach, Splitter impressed many around the league by helping guide a young Trail Blazers roster to its first postseason appearance since the 2020-21 season. The former NBA champion has built a reputation for connecting with younger players and emphasizing player development. His experience both internationally and in the NBA has made him a popular candidate in several coaching searches, and Chicago appears to view him as a serious contender for the position.
Unseld Jr. has been part of the Bulls organization throughout this process and has remained a candidate since the beginning of the search. After serving on Donovan's staff for the past two seasons, Unseld Jr. brings familiarity with the current roster and front office. He also briefly stepped into the head coaching role earlier this season during Donovan's absence for personal reasons. Additionally, Unseld Jr. offers previous head coaching experience from his tenure with the Washington Wizards, something that could prove valuable for a young Bulls team looking to establish consistency.
Nori has long been considered one of the NBA's top assistant coaches. The Timberwolves assistant has interviewed for several head coaching vacancies in recent years and has earned praise for his communication skills and ability to build relationships with players. Those qualities are often viewed as essential for organizations attempting to establish a new culture. Reports suggest Nori made a strong impression during his meetings with Chicago and is viewed as a fresh voice who could positively impact the development of the Bulls' young core.
The fourth finalist, Schmidt, has steadily climbed the coaching ranks. Currently an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks, Schmidt joined the organization in 2023 after spending time in the G League and serving as a head coach in both London and Canada.
