ESPN released its annual NBA player rankings for the upcoming season on Tuesday, and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White landed at 71st on the list after being ranked 58th last year.
White has emerged as Chicago’s most consistent offensive weapon during his breakout stretch the past two seasons. As ESPN’s Jamal Collier noted in the newest NBA Rank, the former No. 7 overall pick shifted from a reserve role to a primary starter, averaging 20.4 points and 4.5 assists on 45% shooting in 74 games last year.
He also hit 216 three-pointers, the most in a single season in franchise history, while helping stabilize the Bulls’ offense after Zach LaVine was traded. Despite his production, White enters the final year of his contract without an extension in place, raising questions about his long-term future in Chicago.
Looking ahead, White is poised to shoulder more responsibility with Josh Giddey, who resigned with the team. While building up chemistry with Giddey on the backcourt that would largely drive the Bulls' offense, White will remain the focal point of the Bulls’ backcourt. His ability to balance scoring with playmaking will be key, especially as Chicago tries to improve its ball movement and three-point efficiency under head coach Billy Donovan.
Suppose he can replicate or build upon last season’s production while expanding his leadership role. In that case, White may force the Bulls into making a tough decision about whether to commit to him long term or risk losing him in free agency.
