A coaching decision looms as leadership rebuilds and the draft looms. The Bulls face a pivotal offseason defining their future.

The Chicago Bulls season is officially over, but if anything, that only sharpens the focus on what comes next. From where I sit, this is one of the most pivotal offseasons this franchise has faced in years. The direction they choose now won’t just shape next season — it will define the next era of Bulls basketball.

The first domino is already in motion.

Billy Donovan’s Future Looms Over Everything

Haize opened with the reality that everything starts with Billy Donovan. His meeting with ownership being pushed back only adds more tension to an already uncertain situation. That delay matters, because it signals that this decision isn’t rushed — it’s deliberate.

And it needs to be.

If Donovan stays, the Bulls maintain some level of continuity. There’s a structure already in place, and players clearly respect him. But if he walks, the Bulls suddenly add another massive task to their offseason: a full coaching search on top of everything else.

That’s not just a coaching change — that’s a philosophical reset.

For me, this decision isn’t just about whether Donovan is a good coach. It’s about alignment. Whoever leads this team — whether it’s Donovan or someone new — has to be fully in sync with where this franchise is going next.

Front Office Reset and Draft Stakes Define the Future

Beyond the coaching situation, the Bulls are staring at a complete front office overhaul. With both the President of Basketball Operations and GM roles open, the organization is essentially rebuilding its leadership from the top down.

Names like Matt Lloyd emerging early in the process show that things are already moving, but the pressure is immediate. Whoever steps into that role won’t have the luxury of easing in — the NBA Draft is right around the corner, and decisions have to be made quickly.

And those decisions carry weight.

The Bulls have locked in the ninth-best lottery odds, giving them a 20.3% chance at a top-four pick. It’s not ideal, but it’s enough to change the trajectory of this team if they get it right.

That’s where this offseason becomes critical.

If they land a high pick, they’re suddenly choosing between players with real star potential — prospects like AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Caleb Wilson, and Cam Boozer all bring different skill sets, but each represents a potential cornerstone.

The key isn’t just talent — it’s fit.

The Bulls can’t afford to draft blindly. They need to identify what this team is supposed to be and select a player who aligns with that vision. That’s something this organization has struggled with in the past, and it’s exactly why this moment feels so important.

This isn’t about quick fixes or half-measures anymore. The Bulls are at a point where every decision — coach, front office, draft — has to connect.
