Even though the action has slowed in the NBA, there are still several key dates and decisions that Bulls fans should be following.

The NBA offseason is now reaching a dead zone. Most unrestricted free agents have signed with a new team, the draft and Summer League are in the past and training camp still sits nearly two months away.

However, there are still several events that Chicago fans can look forward to this summer and early fall for those who aren't invested in the Bears and are solely focused on the young, rebuilding Bulls. That list includes, but is not limited to:

NBA Schedule Release: Mid-August

The Bulls are probably not going to win a lot of games this season, and thus, will presumably not be televised in primetime very often. However, it's easy to see a scenario in which No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson and rising star Matas Buzelis make the Bulls must-watch TV with highlight-reel slams and emphatic blocks.

Wilson has also put a target on the backs of the three players drafted before him: Washington Wizards forward AJ Dybantsa, Utah Jazz guard Darryn Peterson and Memphis Grizzlies forward Cameron Boozer. The first two managed to duck Wilson in Summer League, but the former North Carolina Tar Heel will certainly be circling his matchups against them when the regular schedule is released.

City Edition Jersey Reveal: TBD

Chicago has had some of the best City Edition uniforms in the NBA since Nike first unveiled the concept in 2017. The Bulls began with three years of jerseys that honored the Chicago flag, donning designs that featured a light blue colorway, and returned to an accented blue script on last season's uniforms.

As great as it would be to see the Bulls run it back with the stellar alternates they wore in 2025-26, the league's agreement with Nike means each team must get a new City Edition uniform set each year. The NBA's 2025-26 City Edition slate wasn't revealed until Nov. 11 last season, but fans usually don't have to wait that long before leaks sneak through the cracks.

Extension Candidates

The Bulls will have four players eligible for an extension by the end of September: Isaac Okoro, Nic Claxton, Jalen Smith and Leonard Miller. The latter three are already eligible, while Okoro will be able to sign an extension as soon as Sep. 17.

It's very likely that none of the four will actually sign extensions with the team. Okoro is on an expiring contract and is a prime candidate to be flipped at the trade deadline. Miller showed a lot of upside in the 27 games he played with Chicago last year but will need to prove that in a larger sample size. Claxton has yet to play a game in a Bulls uniform and is under contract through 2028.

Smith is the intriguing candidate. There's no question that the three-year, $27 million contract that Chicago signed him to in 2024 was a steal, but his age (26) and consistent improvement have made him a trendy name in NBA trade circles. Will the Bulls sell high on the former first-round pick? Or will they play him alongside Wilson and Buzelis in the team's long-term frontcourt?

2027-28 Club Options: Oct. 31

The Chicago Bulls have until Oct. 31 to pick up or deny club options to Buzelis, Noa Essengue and Rob Dillingham for the 2027-28 season. Buzelis will undoubtedly have his $7.6 million option exercised, and his play this season will determine whether the Bulls reward him with a max extension next July. Essengue, by virtue of having rarely seen the floor in a live NBA game as a rookie, should have his $6.0 million option picked up for 2027-28.

Dillingham flashed mixed results after arriving from Minnesota in the midseason Ayo Dosunmu trade. The 21-year-old still has plenty of potential, but the clock is ticking for the former No. 8 overall pick. It should come as no surprise if the Bulls decline Dillingham's option and make his third NBA season a "prove-it" year.
