Derrick Rose has officially come full circle.
The former Chicago Bulls star was announced Wednesday as the cover athlete for the Ultra Edition of NBA 2K27, marking his first solo cover appearance in the popular basketball video game franchise.
Rose previously appeared on the cover of NBA 2K13 alongside Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin. More than a decade later, he will now headline his own edition of the game.
Rose's career was one of the most thrilling, heartbreaking and inspiring stories in NBA history. He became the youngest MVP in league history in 2011 before suffering a devastating ACL injury in the 2012 playoffs. From that point forward, his career took a path that few could have predicted.

But they never completely took the game away from him. Rose continued to fight his way back.
He reinvented himself as a player, adapted his game and continued finding ways to contribute long after many had written him off. That resilience ultimately allowed him to play 16 seasons in the NBA before retiring from the game.
Now, he is getting another opportunity to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K.
The announcement comes at a particularly fitting time for Rose. Earlier this year, the Bulls retired his No. 1 jersey, cementing his legacy as one of the most important players in franchise history.
Rose's career may not have unfolded the way many expected after his MVP season, but his impact on the city of Chicago and basketball as a whole has never really gone away.

His story was never just about the points he scored or the highlights he produced. It was about the way he played the game and the way he continued to love basketball even after it had taken so much from him.
That makes him a perfect choice for the NBA 2K27 Ultra Edition.
His appearance also gives fans the opportunity to reflect on just how much has changed since NBA 2K13. Back then, Rose was still viewed as one of the league's biggest young stars. Now, he is a retired MVP whose career has become a story of perseverance and resilience.
For longtime Bulls fans, seeing Rose back on the cover of an NBA 2K game will undoubtedly feel like a trip down memory lane.
His jersey retirement will always be the ultimate way to honor what he meant to the Chicago Bulls and the city of Chicago. But seeing Rose featured on the cover of NBA 2K27 is another cool way his legacy is being celebrated. For a player whose career has meant so much to so many people, it feels fitting that the story of Derrick Rose continues to be told in so many different ways.
