The Cleveland Cavaliers had two players impress during the NBA Summer League.
After five games in Las Vegas, the Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League squad has wrapped up action and can start looking ahead to training camp in just a few months.
Before officially turning the page, there are two players in particular who were clear standouts over the last two weeks of games.
Meleek Thomas
You can’t talk about Summer League this year without bringing up what Meleek Thomas did when he was on the floor.
Thomas led all players in scoring, averaging 27.3 points per game. He also shot an ultra-efficient 50 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from behind the arc. The guard also demonstrated the ability to shoot off the dribble, create his own shot, and play off-ball.
What really stood out to the Cavaliers, though, was Thomas’ playmaking ability. He averaged 3.8 assists per game and got all of his teammates involved on the floor.
This aspect of Thomas’ game wasn’t showcased as much at Arkansas, with him sharing the floor with top-10 pick Darius Acuff. However, with Thomas being a versatile guard, he is in a position to earn playing time right out of the gate.
Of course, the Cavaliers still need to see him play alongside other NBA-caliber players, but there’s a lot to like about Thomas’ future with Cleveland.
Ernest Udeh Jr.
Thomas wasn’t the only player to make a solid impression on the Cavaliers during Summer League. Another player who stood out in his own right was Ernest Udeh Jr.
The 22-year-old out of Miami (Florida) went undrafted in 2026 and signed a two-way contract with the Cavaliers as part of the post-draft free agency frenzy.
Udeh has never been a huge scoring threat in the paint, but he did play to his strengths in Summer League, grabbing 5.2 rebounds and logging 2.8 blocks per game.
The Cavaliers are still relatively thin at frontcourt depth behind Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. After that duo, it’s only Thomas Bryant on the depth chart.
Udeh showed with his physicality during Summer League that he could be a potential option for playing time throughout the year if any of Cleveland’s big men suffer injuries.
