Evan Mobley went off for a season high in points and rebounds in the Cleveland Cavaliers' win over the Utah Jazz.
Evan Mobley has always been the x-factor for this Cleveland Cavaliers team. Their overall ceiling could very well lie in the hands of the 24-year-old forward, and he showed why in Cleveland’s 122-113 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday night.
Mobley ended up scoring 34 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in 29 minutes of work when the final buzzer rang in the fourth quarter.
Both of those numbers are season-highs for Mobley, and it’s also the first time in his career scoring 30 or more points and grabbing 15 or more rebounds in the same game.
Kenny Atkinson summed Mobley’s final line-up perfectly after the game, “that’s a pretty good line from Ev.”
The peculiar piece to this is that the initial game plan wasn’t to feed Mobley in the post, but that’s what it evolved into after a rough start from behind the arc. The Cavaliers shot just 28 percent from three in the first quarter, and that’s when the adjustment came.
Kenny Atkinson credited Donovan Mitchell and James Harden for recognizing that Cleveland’s advantage against the Jazz was going to come in the paint with Mobley. The Cavaliers’ backcourt combined to dish out 19 assists in Utah.

Mandatory Credit: Rob Gray-Imagn ImagesThe scoring and rebounding are really what stand out when looking at just the box score, but Mobley’s big game goes well beyond that. Cleveland’s head coach praised Mobley for his decision-making against the Jazz.
“Even in the first half, they started swarming him [Mobley], kicked it, we got good shots,” continued Atkinson. “He made great, great decisions.”
Perhaps the big question coming out of this game is: how can the Cavaliers get this version of Mobley more often?
Atkinson also acknowledged that Mobley has had an up-and-down season, whether it be the two calf injuries or just simply searching for a rhythm, but the Cavaliers forward is finding his stride at the perfect time.
The Cavaliers are the best version of themselves when their guards are knocking down three-pointers, and Mobley presents a threat in the paint. If Cleveland can find that balance over the next few weeks and into the postseason, Mobley could help make the Cavaliers a dangerous team in the playoffs.
