The game plan and focus won't be much different for the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 vs. the Toronto Raptors.
The Cleveland Cavaliers did take a 1-0 series lead over the Toronto Raptors on Saturday in Game 1, but it could’ve been a much more convincing win for the Wine and Gold, and that’s something that even James Harden admitted immediately after the game.
The Cavaliers had only a seven-point lead heading into halftime and allowed the Raptors to capitalize on some defensive miscues to keep it close.
As Cleveland prepares for Game 2, it knows the Raptors are planning changes and to strike back, and Kenny Atkinson pointed out where his team must improve to take a convincing 2-0 series lead.
Really, Cleveland’s head coach doesn’t think his team needs to take a drastic measure, but “doubling down on what the keys were in the beginning of this series.”
Leading up to the first round matchup, Atkinson emphasized how the Cavaliers must limit Toronto’s points off turnovers and their transition defense. That said, Cleveland did do a good job of limiting the Raptors from getting out and running, as Toronto only scored three fastbreak points.

Mandatory Credit: Dale Zanine-Imagn ImagesWhat Cleveland’s coach doesn’t want the Cavs to do is overreact to one game. Yes, there are some areas where Cleveland must tighten up, but the initial keys are more important because, of course, the Raptors will make changes and adjustments, too.
Atkinson continued, “Sometimes you can jump and just kind of react to that game alone, but we can't forget, you know, transition defense, right? Sure, we did a good job, but it's not like they're gonna double down on that. So it's more than just doubling down on our keys from the beginning of the series.”
At the end of the day, Cleveland’s coach knows, “there are some details we can clean up, defensively. But I don't think the main focus has changed… We get to keep our eye on what their strengths have been, and we'll continue to be.”
If the Cavaliers double down on their initial game plan and focus heading into the series, and clean up some of the other miscellaneous issues that led to a slow start, then the Wine and Gold will set themselves up to win Game 2 as the series shifts to Toronto.
