Cleveland Cavaliers center Evan Mobley discussed what he did to improve this summer.
Coming into the new NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have some of the most pressure on them in the league.
Following a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, Cleveland will be looking to duplicate the success from a year ago. The Cavaliers roster is still one of the best in the NBA, and this group is looking to go after a title.
Cleveland still has star guards Donovan Mitchell and James Harden leading the charge, giving this team a nice duo in the backcourt. The star guards should take on the brunt of the scoring for the Cavaliers, helping the team keep the offense going strong.
But in the frontcourt, star center Evan Mobley remains one of the biggest X-Factors for this team. Mobley, the former No. 3 overall draft pick of Cleveland, has improved his game almost every season that he's been in the league.
However, this year, the Cavaliers may need more from Mobley on both sides of the floor. Mobley is already one of the better defensive big men in the game today, but offensively, he can do more.
Heading into the new season, Mobley did discuss what he has worked on over the offseason the most. The veteran big man did say that he focused on getting to his spots more on offense, making sure he understands where to go on the court.
The center didn't reveal where those spots were or what moves he worked on, but this could help the Cleveland offense run more smoothly. The big man has been a central piece to the Cavaliers' offense since being drafted, and if this team is going to win a title, he will need to step everything up for them.
Last season, Mobley put up 18.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game, playing in 65 contests. If Mobley could get his scoring up past the 20 points per game mark, it would make a big difference for the Cavaliers over the regular season and beyond.
Mobley will also need to improve his three-point shooting, with it coming in at 29.7 percent last season. In the two years before, he shot over 37 percent from distance, and the Cavaliers need him to return to this.
Having a big man who can shoot like Mobley makes the Cleveland offense more dynamic, giving defenses a tougher challenge. Mobley could be the biggest X-Factor for the Cavaliers this year, and the hope is that the work he put in over the offseason can translate to more wins for Cleveland come playoff time.
