The Cleveland Cavaliers believe James Harden will "elevate" their offense.

It’s official: James Harden is a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Darius Garland is joining the Los Angeles Clippers in what could be the biggest move made by any team ahead of the NBA’s trade deadline.

Even when these players take the floor for their new teams, it’s going to take some getting used to seeing Harden don the Wine and Gold while Garland wears a jersey that doesn't say "Cleveland Cavaliers" on the front of it.

Nevertheless, the deal has gone through, and the Cavaliers are convinced that this one-for-one swap is exactly what the roster needs to reach its ultimate goal: winning the NBA Finals.

Koby Altman, Cleveland's President of Basketball Operations, spoke shortly after the trade was announced by the organization and explained why he felt it was the time for the Cavaliers to go all-in on this win-now move.

“James Harden has cemented himself as an all-time great in this league and he adds another elite playmaker and All-NBA talent to our roster,” said Altman. “We’re excited about the impact he will have on our group and our championship aspirations. His presence will elevate our offense, create opportunities for teammates, and bring valuable playoff experience at both ends of the floor.”

Harden may be 36 years old, but he's still putting together an incredibly efficient season on the offensive end of the floor. The 11-time All-Star is averaging 25.4 points and 8.1 assists while shooting 41 percent from the floor and 34 percent from behind the arc.

Harden's playmaking ability, in theory, should make him a solid fit next to Donovan Mitchell and elevate both Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

Even though the Cavs view Harden as the missing piece, Altman made sure to thank Garland for everything he's done for the organization and stressed that this trade wasn't an easy one to make.

“At the same time, we deeply appreciate what Darius Garland has meant to this franchise and the city of Cleveland,” Altman added.

“Over the past seven seasons, Darius grew into an All-Star, a leader, and the heartbeat of our team. This decision was not made lightly, as Darius consistently represented the Cavaliers and our community with grace and joy that resonated with his teammates and our fans, both at Rocket Arena and across the NBA. We are incredibly grateful for everything he has given this organization. The difficulty of this trade reflects the utmost respect we have for him, and we wish him nothing but success as he begins the next chapter of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers.”

Harden is expected to make his Cavalier debut on Saturday when Cleveland takes on the Sacramento Kings.
