The Cleveland Cavaliers are again being viewed as a top team in the NBA entering the season.
After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last year, the Cleveland Cavaliers come into the 2026-27 season ready to go.
Cleveland finally got out of the second round of the playoffs, breaking down a long ceiling that the team couldn't get past. While the team was swept in the conference finals, the Cavaliers believe that it was a good lesson for them to take into the new year.
The front office of the Cavaliers put together a nice offseason, adding in some solid pieces to compliment the star players. The big get for Cleveland was defensive forward Peyton Watson, who could add a lot to this group.
Watson comes over from the Denver Nuggets, signing a massive four-year, $88 million deal with the Cavaliers. Now with Cleveland, Watson is going to have more responsibility on his shoulders on both sides of the ball.
But the Cavaliers see Watson as possibly the missing piece to the puzzle, with him adding to the defensive front that this team has built. Cleveland
Entering the NBA season, the Cavaliers are being viewed as one of the top teams in the league again. Bleacher Report NBA analyst Grant Hughes has given this team a win total prediction of over 48.5 for the year.
With the Cavaliers level of talent on the roster, this number should easily be hit as the year goes on. Cleveland could push well beyond this total, with the team winning 52 games a season ago.
The Cavaliers still have Donovan Mitchell and James Harden leading the show, giving this team a legitimate backcourt scoring duo. Both Mitchell and Harden will have spent a full offseason together and training camp, giving them more chemistry on the court.
After Harden was acquired at the trade deadline a year ago, the team had to figure out a way to bring him into the rotation. It was a little messy at times, with players trying to work together, but now the Cavaliers' offense should be much smoother as the season starts.
The East will be tougher than it was a season ago, with multiple other teams beefing up rosters over the offseason. But Cleveland has strong belief in their guys on the roster, and if all goes to plan, this group should be competing for a title.
The Cavaliers will kick off the new NBA season against the new-look Philadelphia 76ers on October 22 on the road.
