The Cleveland Cavaliers made a flurry of moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline this season. One of those moves included acquiring guard Keon Ellis in the deal with the Sacramento Kings that sent De'Andre Hunter out of town.
Ellis, who became a hot topic ahead of the deadline, has been a quality addition for the Cavaliers. He's not an elite scorer, but he's an excellent defender and he's capable of stretching the floor with his three-point shooting ability.
Since being acquired from the Kings, Ellis has played in nine games with Cleveland. He has averaged 5.7 points per game to go along with 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals. In addition, he has shot 41.7 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from the three-point line.
With that being said, the Cavaliers are gearing up for Friday night's game against the Detroit Pistons. Ellis has landed on the injury report with a concerning issue.
As shared by Danny Cunningham on X, Ellis is dealing with an index finger fracture and is questionable to play against the Pistons.
Clearly, Cleveland is banged up with the stretch run of the season underway. The hope is that the team can get fully healthy before the playoffs arrive.
Along with Ellis, there were a few other players listed on the injury report. Donovan Mitchell has been ruled out against Detroit due to his groin injury. James Harden is questionable with a thumb fracture, Dennis Schroder is questionable with an ankle sprain, and Dean Wade is also dealing with a sprained ankle.
Obviously, this isn't an ideal situation for the Cavaliers. Fans will remember well that Cleveland limped into the playoffs with injuries last year.
Hopefully, the players on this injury report are able to recover quickly. Ellis and Harden dealing with finger fractures could be concerning, as those injuries can linger and nag.
Only time will tell, but the positive sign is that most of the players on the report are questionable to play rather than listed as out. More updates are sure to come over the next few days on their status.
