The Cleveland Cavaliers are predicted to select a big man with their first-round pick.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had a disappointing end to the 2025-26 season as they were swept by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Cavs now enter an offseason with a ton of question marks, as they try to dodge the second apron while pursuing avenues to upgrade the roster. Cleveland traded for James Harden at the deadline, and he could now enter free agency if he declines his $42.3 million player option.

While the free agency moves will be pivotal, the Cavs also hold the 29th overall pick in the draft. In The Athletic's recent mock draft, they have Cleveland selecting Henri Veesaar with their selection.

Veesaar is a center who had a solid year for the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2025-26 season. He averaged 17 points per game along with 8.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 blocks. The 22-year-old shot 60.8 percent from the field and 42.6 percent from three.

Veesaar would be quality depth for Cleveland's frontcourt behind Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. His ability to space the floor could make him playable next to Mobley or Allen in certain lineups.

Allen has also been the subject of trade rumors, and if the Cavs move him, Veesaar could play an important role off the bench.

Cleveland's front office has many decisions to make as star guard Donovan Mitchell has one guaranteed year remaining on his contract, with a $53.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.

The 29-year-old All-Star played well in the 2025-26 season, averaging 27.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 48.3 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from behind the arc.

It will be a tall task for the Cavs to upgrade the roster around Mitchell while also saving money to avoid the second apron.

Cleveland utilizing their draft pick wisely and landing a contributing player on a rookie deal like Veesaar would be a major help as they look to compete for an NBA title in the 2026-27 season.
