Cleveland Cavaliers' forward Evan Mobley could miss up to three weeks with an injury.

One step forward is always followed by two steps back for this iteration of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team beat the Orlando Magic on Monday night, extending its season-long winning streak to four games.

However, on Tuesday, the team announced that one of its star players, Evan Mobley, could miss up to 3 weeks due to an injury.

The team released this statement on Tuesday afternoon, giving an update on Mobley’s calf injury:

“Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley injured his left calf during Monday night's game versus Orlando after postgame evaluation of tightness in that area.An MRI today (Tuesday) at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health revealed a strain. Mobley will begin treatment and is expected to miss approximately 1-3 weeks. Mobley posted 20 points and nine rebounds in the Cavaliers 114-98 win over the Magic.”

This isn’t the first time this season that Mobley has dealt with a calf injury. On December 13, the team announced that Mobley had suffered a left calf strain and was expected to miss two-to-four weeks as a part of the recovery process.

However, just 12 days later, Mobley was on the floor for the Wine and Gold during their Christmas Day matchup against the New York Knicks. Even though it was great that Mobley returned from that injury so soon, this new calf injury is on the same leg as the previous one.

Given the new timeline provided by the team, Mobley could be back for Cleveland’s West Coast road trip, or he’ll be out through the All-Star Break.

Mobley is currently averaging 17.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while shooting 51.2 percent from the floor and 30.4 percent from behind the arc, all while anchoring Cleveland’s defense in the paint.

Those simply aren’t numbers or an impact that can be replaced, but the Cavaliers will have to try their best with a combination of Dean Wade, De’Andre Hunter, and Jaylon Tyson.

Even though Mobley has a history of returning from these calf injuries sooner than expected, the Cavaliers should certainly be cautious with the forward, especially as the team gets closer to the postseason.
