Spurred by trash talk from an NBA 2K opponent, Donovan Mitchell delivered an iconic 46-point performance to help fuel the Cleveland Cavaliers 132-121 win over the Philadelphia 76ers

You just never know who you're playing against on NBA 2K. At some point leading up to the Cleveland Cavaliers' home showdown with Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night, some random kid or person out there found himself playing against Donovan Mitchell.

He apparently left quite the impression.

"This kid pissed me off today," Mitchell said of his matchup with this particular gamer. "I was playing 2K. I've been playing 2K for like two hours and I told him too. I was like, wait, just wait. And he just called me washed up. He called me a bunch of things, but I love it. You know what I mean?"

The smack talk didn't stop there, though. And as it droned on-and-on, the Cavaliers' star channeled his inner Michael Jordan and took it a little personal.

Mitchell looked like something out of NBA 2Ks MyPlayer mode on Wednesday night. Dropping 46 points in what wound up being a 132-122 win over Philly, just to prove his point to the mystery game, who thought he had really stuck it to an NBA superstar. He had now idea what he actually unlocked.

"He said he hadn't seen a highlight for me in a minute. And I just told him, we'll see," said Mitchell. "Told me to go to sleep. He was going in. So this game was for that kid or grown man, whoever that was. But so I appreciate you. I told him I'd give him a shout out too. So that's what tonight was."

Cleveland Cavaliers Postgame Report: Healthy Donovan Mitchell Goes OFF Against the 76ers Cleveland Cavaliers Postgame Report: Healthy Donovan Mitchell Goes OFF Against the 76ers The Cleveland Cavaliers took care of business emphatically at home against the streaking Philadelphia 76ers on Wendesday Night inside Quicken Loans.... Rocke...

That scoring mark tied four other performances for the second-most points in a regular during his career. What made the effort even more remarkable was just how efficient he was, too.

This wasn't some 40-burger birthed out of jacking shots at will. Mitchell shot a blistering 71.4% from the floor, including going six-for-11 from three. On top of the 46 points he also added four rebounds and a whopping eight assists.

The 29-year-old entered the night shooting a career high percentages from the floor (55%) and from three (43.6%). Those figures on Wednesday night reached 71.4% and 54.5%, the former of which tied him for the third most efficient 40-plus point night in Cavaliers history.

It was the latest MVP-type performance amidst a handful of them Mitchell has produced already this season. This one just happened to be fueled by an abnormal source.

Mitchell wasn't willing to go as far as revealing the person's 2K username. He made sure he got the last word, though.

"No, no, I'm not giving him that much attention," said Mitchell. "But he knows who he is. It was a long, long game, long discussion. We were going back and forth. He probably clipped it too, so it might be on the Internet or somewhere."

Adding to Mitchell's incredible spectacle was the fact that the Cavs were donning their newest retro jersey against the 76ers, throwing it back to the navy blue jerseys that debuted when LeBron James first joined the team as a rookie in 2003.

Mitchell grew up wearing that jersey as a kid, watching James play for Cleveland. James produced plenty of legendary performances in that uniform. Now, oddly enough, Mitchell has one of his own.

"As a whole, this night was really dope, man," Mitchell said of the team's look. "I'm kind of hoping we keep the court, you know what I'm saying? And kind of keep it for our home games, but we'll see."
