The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly agreed to trade point guard Dennis Schroder to the Charlotte Hornets.

Since the beginning of the NBA offseason, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been heavily involved in the rumor mill. One of the recent rumors surrounding the team has been a potential trade sending veteran point guard Dennis Schroder out of town.

On Friday afternoon, that rumor finally became a reality.

According to a report from ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, the Cavaliers have agreed to trade Schroder to the Charlotte Hornets. Cleveland is including cash in the deal heading to the Hornets in exchange for point guard Tre Mann.

"Just in: The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading Dennis Schroder and cash to the Charlotte Hornets for Tre Mann, sources tell ESPN," Charania reported on X.

Schroder was acquired by Cleveland ahead of the 2025-26 NBA trade deadline from the Sacramento Kings. He played a valuable role for the Cavaliers following the trade.

In the 30 games and three starts he made for Cleveland after the trade, Schroder averaged 8.2 points, 4.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game, shooting 40.1 percent from the floor and 29 percent from three-point range.

Throughout his 912-game NBA career, the 32-year-old point guard holds averages of 13.7 points per game to go along with 4.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds. He has shot 43 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent from the three-point line.

What are the Cavaliers getting in exchange for Schroder?

Mann is a 25-year-old point guard who has played the last two and a half years in Charlotte. He averaged just 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in 53 appearances last season.

Back in the 2024-25 campaign with the Hornets, Mann had a much bigger role. During that season, he averaged 14.1 points, three assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. He also shot 43.5 percent from the floor and knocked down 40 percent of his three-point attempts.

At the end of the day, Cleveland is also saving money with the trade. Schroder had two years left on his deal that would have paid him roughly $14.8 million and $15.5 million respectively. Mann has one more year left guaranteed and a team option for a second year. He will be paid $8 million in each of those seasons.

After missing out on LeBron James in NBA free agency, it will be interesting to see what the Cavaliers do next. They have been connected to pursuits of both Peyton Watson and Jonathan Kuminga.

Perhaps this trade sending Schroder to Charlotte is the precursor to one of those two deals getting done.
