The Cleveland Cavaliers have stumbled on the road, surrendering a playoff series lead and momentum to the Toronto Raptors. Can they regroup at home?
After a 93-89 loss in Game 4, the Cleveland Cavaliers have dropped back-to-back NBA playoff games to the Toronto Raptors on the road. Spencer German and Spencer Davies broke it down on Courtside with Cavs.
After dropping Game 4 to the Toronto Raptors, the Cleveland Cavaliers are heading back home with the momentum on their opponents' side. They failed to make the fourth quarter competitive on Thursday night, and could not close with an eight-point lead in the final frame on Sunday afternoon.
There will be a lot of questions between now and Wednesday about the Cavs' mental resilience after this weekend, but it is still a tied series at two games apiece. Donovan Mitchell's message postgame was about protecting home court, which Cleveland still has a chance to do.
Spencer German and Spencer Davies broke down what happened in the fourth meeting between these two, what went wrong, and what to expect moving forward in this first-round bout.
Topics of the latest show include the following:
- Though Cleveland's defense and rim protection were on point, careless turnovers and opponent offensive rebounds plagued the squad once again. Is this a solvable issue with this group at this point? Can it remedy these repetitive shortcomings?
- Donovan Mitchell's fourth quarter was much better than his first three, where the Cavs were hurt by his indecision, lack of awareness, and missed shots. He made some baffling choices and didn't seem as mentally locked in as they needed him to be.
- Despite organizing the half-court offense and playing solid defense, James Harden also hurt Cleveland with his first-half giveaways. While he improved his ball security in the second half, he wasn't nearly aggressive enough offensively down the stretch after the Wine and Gold went back on top, and he made a big mistake in a key moment.
- Evan Mobley got in early foul trouble and had a hard time finding space to attack because of the Raptors' defense sinking in. His three-point shot was not there, and other than a few setups from Harden, he couldn't find a rhythm as a scorer.
- On the positive side, Sam Merrill was huge in the fourth quarter and found his rhythm offensively. The Cavs used him as a screener at will, creating space for him to punish Toronto. Jarrett Allen was effective on the glass, too, but was held to only five field-goal attempts.
