A former big man of the Cleveland Cavaliers has signed with the Philadelphia 76ers before the new NBA season.
Former Cleveland Cavaliers center Tacko Fall has found a new home for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season.
Fall will be playing for the Philadelphia 76ers this year, giving him a chance to make a difference on a contending team's roster. The 76ers announced the signing of Fall just weeks before training camp is set to begin.
The big man hasn't been able to find a consistent home in the NBA over his career, with him bouncing around the league. He signed with the Cavaliers before the 2021 season, and his contract was converted to a two-way deal before the year.
Fall played in 11 games for Cleveland during the 2021-22 season, putting up 1.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.2 assists, and 0.5 blocks per game. The big man didn't last long with Cleveland, eventually being waived in Feb. 2022.
Entering the NBA, Fall was seen as an intriguing prospect due to his size. Fall is 7-foot-6, and he dominated in college before coming to the league. In his sophomore season with the UCF Knights, Fall was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Year.
His junior year was limited due to injuries, and he only played in 16 games. But in his senior year, Fall was able to stay healthy, giving interested NBA teams a chance to really see what he could do.
For the season, Fall averaged 11.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks over 33 games. He helped lead UCF to the NCAA Tournament, securing their first victory in program history.
Being a strong shot blocker helped Fall get noticed, but his lack of rebounding, especially for his size, has been a detriment to his game. Fall also doesn't have the quickest foot speed, which has caused him issues at times during games.
Unfortunately, he went undrafted in 2019, eventually signing with the Boston Celtics before the season. His NBA debut came against the New York Knicks, with Fall putting up four points and three rebounds in four minutes.
Since leaving Cleveland, he has been playing in the Chinese Basketball Association and the Australian National Basketball League. But Fall hasn't given up on playing in the NBA, leading to him joining the 76ers.
Fall is still only 30-years-old, giving him a chance to keep his basketball career going strong. While his signing with the 76ers offers him an opportunity, he will really need to impress the Philadelphia coaching staff to make the roster.
