Retirement rumors surrounded former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Lonzo Ball on Wednesday morning, but Ball quickly pushed back against them.

Ball stated in a social media post that he is not retiring and is still waiting for an NBA team to call him up.

Ball last appeared in a game in the 2025-26 season as a member of the Cavs, averaging 4.6 points, four rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 30.1 percent from the field and 27.2 percent from three.

Cleveland traded him to the Utah Jazz, who then waived him, leaving him without a roster spot for the rest of the season.

Ball has had a rough career after the Los Angeles Lakers selected him with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was expected to develop into a star point guard, but he has faced several major injuries that have limited what he's been able to accomplish in his career.

Across his 322 career games, Ball has averaged 10.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the floor and 35.5 percent from deep.

The 28-year-old guard has proven to be an impactful defender and playmaker throughout his career, but he has missed a ton of time with injuries and has struggled to be a consistent shooter.

As he looks to return to the NBA, he will need to focus on staying healthy and shooting efficiently from three-point range, as that could make him a valuable addition to the roster.

The Cavs have a strong point guard rotation, but they made some big changes at the deadline last year, sending away Ball and moving Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers in a deal for James Harden.

Harden played at a high level in 26 games in Cleveland, averaging 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game, shooting an efficient 46.6 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from downtown.

Behind Harden, the Cavs have Craig Porter Jr., who averaged 4.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in the 2025-26 season, shooting 45 percent from the floor and 35.5 percent from distance.

Tyrese Proctor is the other backup guard who could factor into the rotation, as he averaged 5.4 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from deep.

Cleveland has a solid point guard rotation that will help them contend in the 2026-27 season, while Ball looks to return to the NBA.
