A full ticket from LeBron James' NBA debut sold for $24,323 at Lelands' 2026 Summer Classic Auction.

Bidding ended Aug. 15. The ticket was from Oct. 29, 2003, when James played his first NBA game in Sacramento.

He was 18 years old.

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost 106-92, but James scored 25 points with 6 rebounds and 9 assists in 42 minutes. He shot 12-of-20 and also had 4 steals and a block.

Nobody in the game had more points, assists, or steals.

The game did not start on time, either. ESPN had Orlando and New York in the first game of its doubleheader that night. That one went to overtime.

Cleveland and Sacramento were scheduled to follow. ESPN delayed the start in Sacramento rather than join James' debut after it had already started.

J.R. Bremer gave Cleveland 20 points off the bench. He was the Cavaliers' second-leading scorer.

Cleveland trailed by 19 at one point before taking the lead in the fourth quarter. James assisted on a Bremer 3-pointer with 10:05 remaining to put the Cavaliers ahead 85-83.

Sacramento scored the next 6 points. Cleveland never led again.

The Cavaliers had drafted James No. 1 overall that June. He won Rookie of the Year after the season.

Nearly 2,000 Lots in Lelands Auction

The Lelands Summer Classic ran from July 26 through Aug. 15 and included close to 2,000 lots. The listed sale prices include the buyer's premium.

The James ticket was one of several pieces to sell for five figures.

A full Sept. 10, 2001, ticket to the Top of the World observatory at the World Trade Center sold for $29,565. Lelands listed the ticket in mint condition.

Michael Jordan's personally owned copy of the August 1989 issue of Sports Illustrated brought $13,148. His name was printed on the address label.

Tickets from James' first game have been sold before.

Heritage Auctions sold a PSA-graded stub from the Sacramento game in March 2023.

James memorabilia has gone for much more this summer.

His 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection signed patch rookie card sold for $2.928 million at Goldin in late June. No James card had sold for more at a public auction.

Another signed patch rookie sold privately for $5.2 million in 2021.

James Spent 11 Seasons With Cleveland

That night in Sacramento marked the beginning of an 11-season run with Cleveland, spanning two separate periods.

James played for the Cavaliers during his first stint from 2003 to 2010 before joining the Miami Heat, returned in 2014, and stayed until 2018. During his time in Cleveland, he averaged 27.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. He also averaged 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks.

Over 11 seasons in Cleveland, James earned two MVP awards, joined 10 All-Star teams, and was selected for 10 All-NBA teams. He also secured Finals MVP when Cleveland claimed the championship in 2016.

Cleveland's 2016 championship remains the only one in franchise history. They came back from a 3-1 series deficit against Golden State to win the Finals in seven games, a feat no other team has accomplished in NBA Finals history.

James switched teams once more in July.

He signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. The second season is a player option. James has said Philadelphia will be the final stop of his career.

Cleveland had been considered the front-runner for much of the summer. The Cavaliers met with James in Akron before he signed with Philadelphia.

Last season, the Cavaliers finished with a 52-30 record and made it to the Eastern Conference finals. However, New York swept Cleveland in four straight games.

Training camps begin in late September.
