This blockbuster NBA trade idea sends Donovan Mitchell from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat.

A blockbuster offseason NBA trade idea sending Donovan Mitchell from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat has been created.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Cavaliers and Heat after the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery took place on Sunday:

Miami Heat Receive: Donovan Mitchell

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 pick and a 2032 first-round pick

According to The Athletic's Fred Katz, the Cavaliers are prepared to explore trade scenarios for Mitchell this offseason should the All-Star guard decline a contract extension. Under his current contract, Mitchell can hit free agency in 2027.

The Cavaliers acquired Mitchell from the Utah Jazz in 2022. They haven't advanced past the second round of the playoffs with the Louisville product leading the way. Mitchell is under major, major pressure to go on a deep playoff run this year. As of this writing, Cleveland is down 2-1 to the Detroit Pistons in the conference semifinals.

Cleveland made a blockbuster trade this year, acquiring future Hall of Famer James Harden from the Los Angeles Clippers. Harden went to the NBA Finals in 2012 with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He's also been to the conference finals multiple times.

"I don't want to say it's his last shot, or my last shot, either. But it's our best shot," Mitchell said before the 2026 playoffs started, via Sam Amick of The Athletic. "There's a reason why he chose here. He sees it. We know what we've gotta do. Now, how do we do it? Him and I are gonna be fine. We're gonna stagger our minutes. We're gonna do all that, and then in crunch time we all know."

If the Cavaliers lose to the Pistons, Mitchell could be on a new team next season. Let's see how the rest of the series plays out.

A seven-time All-Star, Mitchell has career averages of 25.1 points per game in the regular season and 27.9 points per game in the playoffs. He's one of the top scorers in the NBA.
