New Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers Trade Rumor Pops Up cover image

NBA teams are monitoring Donovan Mitchell's future with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to Tim Bomtemps of ESPN, teams around the NBA are monitoring Donovan Mitchell's future with the Cleveland Cavaliers

Mitchell has never been past the second round of the playoffs with the Utah Jazz and Cavaliers.

"People around the league are watching the Donovan Mitchell situation," Bontemps said. "He's got one guaranteed year left on his contract. He has not made it out of the second round of the playoffs in his career. And if the Cavs don't make a playoff run this year when they came into the season coming off winning 64 games and losing in really disappointing fashion. ... There's pressure there for the Cavs to make a run this year."

The Cavaliers had the best record in the East last season. However, they lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs in five games.

Cleveland acquired Mitchell from Utah in 2022. Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals is the deepest playoff run the Wine and Gold have made in the Mitchell era.

Mitchell will make $50.1 million next season. He has a player option worth $53.8 million for the 2028-29 season.

The Cavaliers probably won't trade Mitchell unless he requests a trade. Mitchell doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, but Cleveland has made Mitchell and Evan Mobley untouchable in trade talks.

Mitchell is averaging 28.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game this season while shooting 48.3% from the field, 38.2% from beyond the arc and 84.2% from the free-throw line. The Cavaliers are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

When Mitchell knew the Jazz were going to trade him in 2022, the All-Star shooting guard wanted to get traded to the New York Knicks. The New York native has fallen in love with Cleveland, but Mitchell will always be linked to the Knicks, since he's from The Big Apple.

The Cavaliers are under immense pressure to go on a deep playoff run this year. Let's see how they do after trading De'Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings for Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder.
