Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Cleveland Cavaliers would be electric.
A blockbuster offseason NBA trade idea sending Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Cleveland Cavaliers has been created.
Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Cavaliers and Bucks:
Cleveland Cavaliers receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks receive: Evan Mobley, Sam Merrill, 2026 No. 29
"If the sides agree to the deal before the draft, Milwaukee can direct Cleveland on the selection at No. 29," Pincus wrote. "The trade would then become official on July 6, after the NBA's annual moratorium. Cleveland would acquire Antetokounmpo by aggregating Mobley and Merrill, which would trigger a projected second-apron hard cap of $221.7 million. Milwaukee would use Antetokounmpo's outgoing salary to absorb Mobley and Merrill, triggering a projected first-apron hard cap of $209.1 million."
This structure would not create any trade exceptions. The first-round pick in the deal originally came from the San Antonio Spurs.
The Bucks are expected to trade Antetokounmpo this offseason, and unless the Cavaliers shock the world and win the NBA Finals, they are expected to chase the man they call "The Greek Freak."
This trade idea pairs Antetokounmpo with James Harden, Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen. On paper, that looks like a dangerous "Big 4."
Antetokounmpo will make $58.5 million next season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season. The two-time MVP is eligible to sign a four-year, $275 million extension with the Bucks on October 1. If he declines the extension, Antetokounmpo will be traded, according to Milwaukee co-owner Wes Edens.
Antetokounmpo holds career averages of 24.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. It will be fascinating to see where he's playing next season. The future Hall of Famer was pursued by Cleveland at this year's trade deadline.
As of this writing, the Cavaliers are up 3-2 on the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. If Cleveland wins this series against Detroit, the Wine and Gold will face the New York Knicks in the conference finals.
No one expects the Cavaliers to win the Finals this year, so even though it would be tough to see Mobley go, Cleveland's front office has to go all-in for Antetokounmpo this summer if winning a championship is truly Dan Gilbert's goal.
"The reasoning is simple: Cleveland gets one of the five best players on the planet to pair alongside Donovan Mitchell and James Harden on a legitimate championship run," Pincus wrote.
