Jake Fischer reports that Cleveland has not entertained trading Jarrett Allen. His three-year, $90.72 million extension begins this season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have not entertained trading Jarrett Allen. Jake Fischer reported that Monday for The Stein Line. Additionally, the Atlanta Hawks have made their interest in the Cleveland Cavaliers center known for some time.
The extension Allen signed in August 2024 begins this season. It pays him $28 million in 2026-27, $30.24 million in 2027-28, and $32.48 million in 2028-29. The contract does not include a no-trade clause.
Allen played 56 games last season and averaged 15.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 27.1 minutes. He shot 63.8% from the field and 70.9% from the free-throw line. He recorded 20 double-doubles. Allen was a Player of the Month nominee in February.
Two finger fractures, one on each hand, slowed Allen at the start of the season. Right knee tendinitis then cost him 10 consecutive games in March. Allen returned March 27 against Miami and posted 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Allen spoke with Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com in late March, after a loss in Los Angeles that dropped the Cavaliers to 47-29.
"Jumping and landing on the knee still hurts," Allen said.
Allen averaged 12.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in the playoffs against Toronto, Detroit, and New York. He blocked 1.7 shots per game and played 29.4 minutes. In Game 7 of the second round, Allen scored 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbed 7 rebounds in a 125-94 win over Detroit. New York swept Cleveland in the Eastern Conference finals.
Allen has played nine NBA seasons. He holds career averages of 13.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 624 regular-season games. He was an All-Star in 2022.
Before February's trade deadline, Indiana called Cleveland about Allen, Fischer reported at the time. The Cavaliers instead traded Darius Garland to the LA Clippers for James Harden. Cleveland sent De'Andre Hunter to Sacramento for Dennis Schröder and Keon Ellis five days before the deadline. Indiana acquired Ivica Zubac from the Clippers.
In February, after a win over Brooklyn, Harden described Allen's touch around the rim as "one of the most underrated parts of his game."
Teams calling Koby Altman typically ask about Evan Mobley, Allen, Jaylon Tyson, or Max Strus, Fedor reported in June. Cleveland can trade its own first-round pick in either 2031 or 2032.
Mobley averaged 18.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists last season. Thomas Bryant and Larry Nance Jr. handled the backup minutes behind Mobley and Allen. Bryant re-signed for one year and $3.5 million.
Cleveland lost Dean Wade to Philadelphia this offseason and signed Mario Hezonja to a one-year, $2.85 million contract. Second-round pick Meleek Thomas averaged 27.2 points in 29.0 minutes at summer league.
